Amateur Jake Sowden was thrilled to make the weekend at International Series England, describing it as an ‘honour’ to tee it up with some of the world’s best at Foxhills Club & Resort.
The 20-year-old won England’s under-25 championship only a month ago and has carried that form into the elevated event which forms part of The International Series 2024 schedule on the Asian Tour.
Sowden, a prolific winner on the amateur circuit, posted two solid rounds of 71 and 70, resulting in a one-under-par total which was enough to see him into the weekend with the cut falling at even par.
He had the added bonus of his father Craig on the bag, a pairing that made it even more special in a three-ball with Rayhan Thomas of India and Chen Guxin of China.
When asked about his round, Sowden said: “It was amazing, it was such an honour. I was struggling a lot on the front nine and scrambling to make pars and just waiting for it to happen.
“I am so looking forward to teaming up again with the big players. It is awesome and having Dad on the bag made it very special!”
In a star-studded field that saw LIV Golf League player Peter Uihlein post an incredible round of 61, breaking the course record, Sowden was in awe of the competition.
“It's amazing, looking at the big names at the top of leaderboard is incredible, and just mixing amongst them is such a great experience, it’s a real honour!”
The International Series is the most prized pathway in golf. It consists of 10 elite tournaments sanctioned by the Asian Tour and offers the year-long Rankings leader promotion to the LIV Golf League
