Kelvin Si makes history as first ever Macau golfer to make cut at The International Series

2025-03-21

Macau’s Kelvin Si made history at Macau Golf and Country Club, becoming the first player from Macau to make the cut at an International Series event.

The 22-year-old carded a second-round three-under-par 67 and moved to seven-under overall, well inside the top 10 heading into the weekend at International Series Macau presented by Wynn.

Si failed to make the cut in the 2024 edition, however the experience of playing in a pro tournament has set him up well for this year’s event and he’s hoping for real fireworks over the weekend as he goes in search of a big finish in the elevated event that offers three places in The Open Championship at Royal Portrush in July.

He said: “It is my home course, so it definitely feels like home. The conditions were really good today – sunny, with not much wind.

“I played this event last year and missed the cut, but it was a good experience. I can use that this week, and I feel much more comfortable than last year because that was my first time playing a professional tournament on this course.

“I played a bit conservatively over the first two days, but now that I’ve made the cut, I can be a bit more aggressive with my approach and hopefully make a few more birdies over the weekend.

“I think I putted better yesterday, but I was chipping quite badly on the back nine and made two stupid mistakes that led to bogeys. But yeah, I’ll try to get it back tomorrow.”

Si is in the field with a host of stars including Patrick Reed who leads the way in the tournament and Sergio Garcia who is in tied third position, only two shots ahead of the youngster from Macau.

Si added: “It’s always good to compete against major champions. I’ll try to do my best over the weekend.”
